Every year I get calls and messages that start with something like, “I have a senior and I have no idea what I’m doing but is it time for pictures? Already?” The answer is YES. Here’s why, even though your senior hasn’t even started back to school yet, we do pictures now.
- The senior picture season is driven by a firm deadline. Most schools (in the Anchorage area anyway) will require that photos for the yearbook be submitted late October/early November. Sounds like you still have plenty of time, right? Actually no.
- Your photographer will likely need anywhere from 2-4 weeks to get your pictures back to you after they are taken. For me, typically I don’t schedule seniors past the first week of October (at the very latest). Later than that and it becomes difficult to meet the yearbook deadline.
- June – October is to photographers what tax season is to accountants. It is busy. Not only is it senior portrait season but it’s also family portrait season and, if you are planning to work with a photographer who also does weddings, it’s also wedding season. Needless to say, calendars fill up fast.
Parents who have had seniors, do you have any additional thoughts or advice to those who are getting ready to begin their first senior year?
Please share this post with someone who needs to know – every photographer in Anchorage will thank you for it!
